I'm Pinoy no matter what
I don't cry over lovers. I rarely cry for my friends. But I cry for my country. All the time. Actually, the best way to make me cry is to make me listen to anything patriotic - from the Philippine National Anthem to Mig Ayesa's United as One. Even the old TV commercial of the Philippine Airlines made me cry first time I saw it on YouTube. And now, hahaha, I have new tearjerkers! Even this makes me teary-eyed! Hahaha!
Why do I cry over my country? Because, even if Buddha says I should take away passions in my life to achieve peace, I find peace in the struggle for a better nation. I hate a lot in it, but I also love a lot of things in it. The Philippines is a country of a strong and creative people. I really believe in the Filipino spirit that conquers the odds. We are not the best, no one is. A lot of people say Filipinos are better people outside the Philippines. I find that true. Because you take out the shit - Catholic illusions largely of holiness in poverty and piety and God-destined lives of "moral" hardship - you see the light in Filipinos. The talent shines, the creativity shines, the genius breaks through. We have now amongst us, heroes, but we can't live off on heroes alone. I can go on and on about this topic so let me just end in a celebratory mood to start my day. I'll take you to the Philippines. But listen, more than the country, we'd like to welcome you to the Filipino. Mabuhay Pilipinas!
